How to Find Your Authentic Self

People can come to a time in their lives where they feel like they should be something else, feel something else, or almost like they have lost themselves along the way to where they are. It is SO important to stop and reflect back sometimes to remember and/or understand who you are. These are just some of the activities that you can do to better understand who you are.

 

  1. Get in touch with your body, mind and soul

Yeah we know, it may sound cliché, but yoga and meditation are the key to slowing down, silencing the background noise and allowing you to truly delve deeper into your SELF. Bringing awareness to the patterns your body may build up over time is important in understanding whether you are being yourself, or whether you have been conditioned through life’s events, to supress that and be someone/something else. E.g. Maybe you’re a person who likes going for walks in nature, but your 9-5(ish mrore like 7) job doesn’t allow for that.

 

  1. Look back

Looking back at your childhood and upbringing can allow you to notice the changes that have occurred throughout your life – your hair style, the clothes you wear, your posture, your energy, what you are doing – will all change. Make sure you’re changing into a new and improved YOU, and not someone/something else. You can also write about your childhood to answer questions like What were the most important events that occurred? How did these experiences change you? What did you learn from them? How are they affecting who you are today?

 

  1. Question yourself

It’s OK to ask yourself questions, even hard questions. Things like; What was your favourite thing to do as a child? Do you still love to do that? Do you STILL do that? Why/Why not? When did you start to form into something that was expected of you? What do you need to do to make you YOU?
