Skin is probably the first thing you notice about someone. Cold, crisp and windy weather usually calls for a dry and dull looking complexion. But, it doesn’t always have to be that way.
TBM has some top tips for keeping your skin clear and glowing all year long (including winter!), to help you navigate through the abundance of beauty hacks that the internet and beauty industry throw at us.
-
Steer clear of any foods that are damaging to your skin or gut
Your gut and skin health are strongly linked, so do some investigative trial and error to see what works for you and what doesn’t. Whatever doesn’t work will make your skin look horrible. For example, dairy and sugar are both common in causing pimples, blemishes and generally crap looking skin. An elimination diet can help you pin point what makes your skin tick. Just take note of what you eat and how it makes you skin look, and try eliminating what you think might be the culprit.
-
Exercise
It seems like exercise is the answer to everything, but it really does make us genuinely happier and healthier. By sweating it out you can eliminate toxins from your body and clear your skin. Think Bikram Yoga.
-
Coconut oil face masks
Coconut oil is so versatile. Not only is it good for your gut, its’ also good for your hair and skin. It’s full of healthy fats and is antimicrobial too! Try smudging some of this coconut goodness onto your skin a few times a week, and leave for 30 minutes before washing it off.
-
Get a facial or microdermabrasion every now and then
Our skin builds up a lot of oil and nasties over time. It’s important to give it a really good cleanse and exfoliation, go a few layers under the skin and get it all out so we can start fresh.
-
Eat more Probiotics
Probiotics are good for your gut, and if you can heal your gut you can heal your skin. Go for some kimchi, plain Greek yoghurt (if your skin can tolerate dairy), or sauerkraut with your next meal and start glowing from the inside out.
-
Apple Cider Vinegar
After cleansing and moisturising, try toning with some apple cider vinegar. By balancing your skin’s PH levels this liquid gold can help to reduce the appearance of blemishes AND eczema in a few short weeks.
-
ALWAYS remove your make up before bed!
Even if its 4am and you’ve just rolled in after a night of drinking and dancing in heels. Your skin deserves that much.
-
Use essential oils
Mix a few drops of essential oils into your moisturiser to get it glowing fresh. Try rose hip, lavender and/or tea tree oil for oily skin.
-
Get enough sleep
Being tired and run down makes our skin look tired and run down. Make sure you’re getting enough shut eye and don’t develop a routine of sleep deprivation.
-
Drink Water
Staying hydrated is the key to having hydrated and supple looking skin. Bring a water bottle with you wherever you go and if water tastes too plain for you, then throw some orange, lemon, or strawberries in and leave it in the fridge overnight. You will wake up to vitamin boosted water that tastes refreshing and does wonders for your skin.
